In 1588 De Castro left Antwerp and moved to Düsseldorf to take up the official position of chapelmaster at the court of Johann Wilhelm of Jülich, Cleves and Berg (he probably succeeded Martin Peudargent). For the first (and last) time in his career he acquired an official position as a musician; for once he could free himself from the unstable sytem of private patronage.
The Hymeneal De Castro had composed three years before for Johann Wilhelm and Jakoba, seems to have convinced the Duke of De Castro's talent.
