De Castro's Presumable Date of Death

De Castro's date of death is not yet known for certain. The last publication with new music by De Castro (i.e. his masses) is dated 10 July 1599. He dedicated it to Karel Billehé, whom he must have met through Jean Polit. From then on only reprints with his music were published, without dedication - the first one as early as 1600. This makes us assume that De Castro died in the second half of 1599 or shortly afterwards.
